Know Your Rights
Communication
To avoid unwanted telephone calls from telemarketers you are able to register your home, mobile phone number and fax number on a 'DO NOT CALL REGISTER'  by calling 1300 792 958 or www.donotcall.gov.au.  Some organisations are exempt and you may still receive calls from market researchers.  After registering your telephone number it may take 30 days for companies to stop calling you.  Your registration will be valid for five years and you can re-register at any time.

Door to door sales people are permitted to call Monday-Friday from 9am-8pm, Saturday 9am-5pm and not permitted any time on Sunday, or public holidays.  You can cancel any door-to-door contract of sale, including finance, within 10 days, but you must act quickly.  For help and advice contact Consumer Action Law Centre, Legal Advice Line on 9629 6300 or 1300 881 020, www.consumeraction.org.au.
