The aim of the proposed research is the development of a predictive model of how the introduction of a new technology evokes changes in behavioural systems at the level of local work practice, and how this translates into a chain reaction of structional and functional changes which emerge at the organisational level. Succinctly put, the essential questions this work hopes to answer and test empirically are "What does a new piece of technology equipment do to work practice?" and "How can we qualitatively predict outcomes of this change?" This research is based on an ecological approach as put forth in the works of Gibson, Rasmussen, and Vicente.
